Luau

Here is a fun collage from the Luau. It felt like Hawaii. The items donated to the auction were amazing. Love the artsy surfboard and I almost bid on the surfer in the curl canvas by Tom Keck (it was too late , I was so bummed). The Polynesian Dancers were awesome, lots of costume changes. The guy in the VW bus picture had built it by himself. It had Elvis in Blue Hawaii curtains on the inside. What a labor of love. The guy with the lei is Robert August, the family on the right is Rell Sun's daughter and family.
The large pictures below show surf photographer Tom Keck in action, Wingnut doing what he is known for, and a close up of Mike Hynson (the blonde guy from Endless Summer).

Longboard Luau

My photographer friend Marlo Yoshimoto got me a gig as a photographer for the Longboard Luau at Scripps Pier in La Jolla today. It's a fundraiser to fight cancer and today $380K were raised. Many surfing legends support this event and it was amazing to see so many faces I know from surf movies and magazines. Here are some group shots, I will post more (including actual surfing shots and photos from the Luau) soon. Look for Robert August, Wingnut and Mike Hynson from ENDLESS SUMMER, veteran surfer Mickey Munoz and female surf pioneer Linda Benson. The "mermaid" in the front is Jericho Poppler.

Birthday!

Every year when it's my birthday my mom reminisces about the day I was born. It's become a tradition. So I thought that in honor of my birthday today I will post a picture of a little baby girl (not me :) ) to celebrate! More pictures from this cute session to come soon!

Surf Culture Days San Clemente

Sunday we stopped by the Casa Romantica for their Surf Culture Days. Wow!!! The view was AMAZING. We got to meet and chat with Robert "Wingnut" Weaver from Endless Summer II. He was super cool with the kids, and, to my total surprise, he turned out to be 100% German, was even born there. Wingnut? German? Then the kids got to shape a mini balsa surf board with shaper Chuck Basset. Another great guy. And amazing shaper. As if all that wasn't enough, we then listened to the surf guitars of Duo Tones, Greg Orr and Paul Johnson, who wrote many of the surf songs we all know (like Mr. Moto). All these shots were taken with my little point and shoot, better than nothing!
